A Mumbai court has granted bail to the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan who was arrested by the police for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
Armaan Khan, 26, appeared in the sessions court today on a bail petition filed by his father, and actor-filmmaker Khan. Khan had earlier sought the court’s direction to the Maharashtra government to bear the expenses of his studies.
The police had arrested Khan on July 22 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
During the hearing today, special judge JP Malik asked Khan to remain present before the court on the next date of hearing on October 3, after accepting his bail plea.
In the last hearing, the sessions court had denied bail to the Khan scion.
Khan, a resident of Bandra West here, was arrested from Juhu in the wee hours on July 22, after his car collided with an autorickshaw, killing one person on the spot.
While three others, who were injured in the accident, have already been discharged from the hospital, the driver of the autorickshaw, 29-year-old Sahadat Hasan Mardan, was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
A case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Khan at Juhu Police Station.
The police had then claimed that Khan was driving under the influence of alcohol, while his defense team had countered the allegations saying that the actor had no alcohol in his bloodstream when he was tested at the police station.
